CPPC to set up a bioplastic plant

CPPC Plc, a petrochemical arm of Charoen Pokphand Group, plans to invest Bt450 million or about Bt1.3 billion to set up a bioplastic production plant in Thailand to solve global warming problem.



The company is also planning to become a listed company in the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 2009. It aimed to mobilise fund of Bt1 billion by issuing 40 million shares at the par value of Bt10 per share. So far, the company has to support its plastic and packaging business expansion. So far, the company has registered capital of 195 million shares.

To facilitate the investment, the company will form a joint venture with USbased Escospan, a leading petrochemical manufacturer, to establish the plant in Rayong province, locating on 200 rai area. The plant will concentrate on producing plastic glass and packaging.

Marss Wan Cheng Kuo, president and chief executive officer of the company, said of the total investment, Bt200 million will spend for biopackaging plant and the remainder will set up plastic sack factory.
