EXIM as venture capitalist
Export Import Bank of Thailand is ready to take long-term equity participation in companies in potential sectors, with the strategy to improve their businesses for the listing on the exchange.
Apichai Boontherawara, president of the bank, said on Tuesday that most Thai companies contain low capital base, insufficient to support their business expansion. Borrowing only raises their debt to equity ratio, increasing the failure in tapping more loans.
EXIM Bank, as a long term investor, vows to increase their efficiency to cope with fiercer competition. The bank aims to hold no more than 30 per cent in those companies and the holding period would be fixed.
"We initiate the new role in response to Thai business operators' demand," Apichai said.
