Energy Ministry to wait on Oil Fund

Energy Minister Piyasvasti Amranand yesterday said the ministry would wait for a few days before making a decision on whether the mandatory contribution to the Oil Fund would be cut further.

Published on November 13, 2007

Last week, he said the Oil Fund would review whether the contribution must be cut again to delay a hike in domestic retail fuel prices. The contribution for all fuel products except supreme petrol was cut on November 5 by 40 satang a litre.

Earlier yesterday, Energy Policy and Planning Office director-general Viraphol Jirapraditkul said the cut depended mainly on the movement of Singapore's oil prices.

PTT announced yesterday that prices of all fuel products in Singapore dropped US$1 (Bt33.90) per barrel in the morning, although staying above $100 a barrel.

More natural gas expected in 2008

More than 800 million cubic feet of natural gas will flow into the system next March, sufficient for rising demand, says PTT senior executive vice president Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith.

He said additional supply of 100 million cubic feet per day would come from the Arthit Field in the Gulf of Thailand, which would be available late next February. At full capacity, 330 million cubic feet per day would come from the field.

About 400 million cubic feet per day from the Joint Development Area (JDA) will also be supplied next March. While 100 million cubic feet will be supplied to the Songkhla power plant, the rest will be sent to power and industrial plants in Rayong.
