Teerapon from Chulalongkorn university recommends restaurants near his campus to younger friends and people living in the area.

Teerapon Techapanichgul, 22, a fifth-year student majoring in industrial design at the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University

Johnny restaurant

Teerapon chooses the two-storey air-conditioned Johnny restaurant in Sam Yan Market. "It's one of the most popular restaurants around here and it's close to the campus," he says. "There are many restaurants in the area but my friends and I often lunch here before we go back to our studies."

Ten thousand li (stir-fried glass noodles with sweet chilli paste) and moo manow (lime pork) are his two favourite dishes. "I came here for the first time when I was a freshman and its name (ten thousand li) sounded so great. And when I tried the food, it tasted good, too!" The dishes range from Bt35-80. The restaurant is open from 11am till 9pm every day. Cross the flyover near the Faculty of Accountancy gate and take the steps down on the right. Then turn left to the alley at the foot of the flyover. When you see the 7-Eleven, the restaurant is nearby. At noon the restaurant is crowed and there's a five- to 10-minute wait for a table. Yummy pork leg and pretty girls are the main attractions for Teerapon at his second-favourite restaurant, a roadside food stall close to the Faculty of Political Science gate on Henry Dunant Road. It has about three to five tables and sometimes you have to sit with other customers at the same table. "I call this dish the freedom meal," says Teerapon. "You shouldn't worry about calories or becoming fat. The stall serves very fattening dishes even if you ask the owner for less of the fattening stuff. But that's the signature of this food stall. And its gravy sauce is very thick and tasty," he said. Teerapon laughs and adds in a whisper that he likes it here because the female students at the Faculty of Political Science are so attractive. The dishes are priced between Bt25 and Bt30. The pork leg stall is open Tuesday to Friday from 9am till 3pm.
