Eto'o determined to play in African Nations Cup

Madrid (dpa) - Samuel Eto'o is determined to play in the African Nations Cup this winter, despite Barcelona's efforts to convince him not to.

This is the news put out on Friday evening by the digital version of Marca.

According to Marca, Jose Maria Mesalles, Eto'o's representative, has already told Barca technical secretary Txiki Begiristain of the striker's intention to play for Cameroon in the tournament, which begins in Ghana on January 20 and lasts for four weeks.

In October Begiristain told the Spanish media that Barcelona would prefer Eto'o and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure to miss the tournament, a statement which apparently infuriated the explosive Eto'o.

It is still not clear whether Toure will play in the tournament.

Eto'o is still around three weeks away from fitness, after tearing muscles in his right thigh in a friendly against Inter Milan in August.
