The office will be used to sort and grade rough gems from the Canadian company's Fiskenaesset Ruby Project on the southwest coast of Greenland.
Bangkok is a major centre for the international coloured-gemstone industry, and the firm will be able to use the highly specialised and experienced skills available.
Polishing factories in Bangkok have extensive experience with the sorting, grading, evaluation and polishing of rubies and sapphires. The new office will be located within a well-established and secure facility that will also allow for the implementation of professional control and security during the sorting, grading and processing of True North's bulk samples.
"With its proximity to the established markets of Europe and the Arab countries and the new growth areas of China and India, Bangkok is an international market place for purchasers of rough as well as polished gems," said Nick Houghton, director and vice president for product development and marketing. "An office in Bangkok allows True North to access the knowledge and opportunities that exist there."
The firm also announced that Rock Lee had accepted an offer to join the advisory board. Lee is the founder and chairman of China Stone, a company renowned for high-precision cutting and polishing of precious stones with factories in Thailand and China.
True North Gems is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange and engaged in the exploration and development of North American coloured-gemstone prospects.
