Samak upbeat for premiership

People Power Party leader Samak Sundaravej voiced optimism on Tuesday that he would become the next prime minister after leading his party to victory in the December 23 general election.

"Why should I be the party leader if I don't aspire for the position of prime minister?" he asked.

Samak said he is ready to lead his partylist candidates through the registration process on Wednesday and that his party will kick off a major rally at Sanam Luang next Friday.

The party's campaigning activities will conclude with another Sanam Luang rally on December 21, he said, vowing to visit every constituency during the campaigning.

His campaign platforms include the construction of eight train routes for mass transportation in Bangkok, the promotion of coalfire power and nuclear energy, he said.
