The source, who asked not to be named, said if Sonthi was to run in the poll, he would have shown his stance clearly by now as party-list MP registration starts tomorrow.
"General Sonthi will absolutely not run in the election. I can guarantee that 100 per cent. If he does, what he has done in the past year would be a waste. People will think he made the coup for himself. If a political party invites him to be a minister after the election, that would be nicer," he said.
He said parties had contacted Sonthi but he gave them no signals as to whether he would accept. Moreover, as Sonthi has been appointed to lead the anti-electoral fraud commission, it would not be suitable for him to run in the election, the source said.
Meanwhile, Pua Paendin leader Suwit Khunkitti said Sonthi had not talked to the party.
