The imams were killed and two villagers injured when the pickup truck in which they were travelling was ambushed in Rusoh district of Narathiwat province.
Lamae Derramae, 56, the imam at Ban Tapaeh in Tambon Suwaree, and Asae Dae-kae, 59, the imam at Ban Taya in the same tambon, were riddled with bullets.
Sahae Mehey, 42, and Mah Mehey, 81, both from Rusoh's Tambon Suwaree, were injured in the attack, which was carried out by gunmen with M-16 assault rifles.
The four men were returning from a monthly meeting of imams. When they stopped on the road to remove a large log that was blocking their way, the gunmen appeared from behind trees and started shooting.
In Pattani, three men were shot dead by four gunmen using M-16 assault rifles.
Saeksan Kama, 35, a village defence volunteer, Lateh Kama, 54, a village chief, and Abdullah Hitae, 35, an assistant village chief, were returning home from a meeting of village chiefs when they were attacked.
The four gunmen were in another vehicle that overtook them on the Tung Yang Daeng-Kapor road.
The three officials were from Tambon Paku in Tung Yang Daeng district.
Also in Pattani, army private Sakreang Malinee, 26, and his wife, Nanta, 25, were injured when they were shot in Tambon Mohmawee, Yarang district.
They were riding on a motorcycle when gunmen came up from behind and started shooting. Sakreang was shot in the head and neck, while his wife suffered a broken leg when the motorcycle fell.
In Yala, Krit Noypa, 46, the assistant chief of Krong Pinang district, was injured when two gunmen approached his pickup truck on a motorbike and fired two shots at him. He was hit in the knee.
