The job openings were recently ordered by acting police chief Seripisut Temiyavej. The basic qualifications for the jobs are listed as "bravery, dedication, patience, being mentally and physically strong, with experience in counter-insurgency work merely preferable".

The officers will be promoted to the post of superintendent at the rank of police colonel. They will be required to work for three years in the promoted position before being eligible to ask for a transfer from areas in Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani. Applications for the positions close on November 15.
