Koeman signs up Bakero to be assistant at Valencia

Madrid - Ronald Koeman has recruited Jose Mari Bakero to be one of his assistant coaches at Spanish football club Valencia, Catalan sports dailies Sport and El Mundo Deportivo reported on Monday.

The reports said that Bakero will work alongside Dutchman Tony Bruins Slot, brought over from the Netherlands to be Koeman's second- in-command.

Bakero was the captain of the Barcelona "Dream Team" of the 1990s which featured Koeman in defence. He played for Spain at the 1990 and 1994 World Cup finals.

In recent years Bakero has coached Malaga and Real Sociedad, without much success.

Koeman moved from PSV Eindhoven to become Valencia coach last week in succession of the sacked Quique Sanchez Flores.

Koeman, Bruins Slot and Bakero will make their debuts on the Valencia bench in Tuesday's Champions League clash at home to Rosenborg Trondheim.
