"Kamala Sukosol: Silver Jubilee Concert" is actually three shows taking place from November 15 to 17 in the Siam City Hotel's Kamolthip Ballroom.
At the birthday celebration Kamala held the stage with all the vim and vigour of performers half her age. She and members of her family entertained with dynamic song-and-dance numbers against a backdrop of Manhattan skyscrapers.
Kamala's love of swing music filled the air, with the assistance of her long-time friends and the venerable Prachin Songpow Big Band Orchestra.
Among the well-wishers were Privy Councillor MR Thepkamol Devakula, Dr Sumet Jumsai na Ayudhya, Anand Panyarachun, Arsa and Thanpuying Suchitguna Sarasin and ambassadors Antonio Felix de Faria e Maya of Portugal, Dato Shaarani bin Ibrahim of Malaysia, Maria Luisa Fernandez Eguilaz of Cuba and Lars Erik Backstrom of Finland.
This month's concerts aim to raise at least Bt2.8 million for the Thai Red Cross Society. Among the guest entertainers will be Paibulkiat "Pun" Kheokeaw, Ben Chalatit, Dolchai Boonyaratavej, Marisa Nunbhakdi and Krissada "Noi" Sukosol Clapp, together with dancers from Aree School of Dance Arts.
The programme will feature big-band arrangements of timeless jazz standards, including Cole Porter's "In the Still of the Night", Frank Sinatra's "For Once in My Life" and the music of Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman.
The fans will also be treated to pop hits like "Unbreak My Heart", "I Can See Clearly Now", "Lady Marmalade" and "One Night Only".
Tickets are Bt1,000 to Bt2,500 and Bt400 for students and are available at the Siam City Hotel. Tickets for the gala dinner-performance on November 16 are Bt35,000 and Bt40,000 per table.
