This year, the uniquely Thai festival of lights and new beginnings, Loy Krathong, will be held on November 24. Chiang Mai, with its rich Lanna culture, is one of the most captivating cities in which krathong can be floated away on the current. Below is a list of places where the festival is being celebrated.
In front of the Governor's residence (near Nawarat Bridge)
On November 22 to 25, there will be a cultural market Yi-Peng Kad Mua - Kua Da. Also, there will be releasing of kom-loy or kom yi-peng (Northern Thai flying lanterns) and kratong floating activities at the bank of Ping River on the night November 24.
Three Kings Monument and Chiang Mai City Art & Culture Museum
On November 22, there will be the Yi-Peng Ceremony at the Three Kings Monument, from 6 to 7pm. On November 23 to 25, 6 to 9.30pm., there will be Lanna musical performances. Also, Kaung Khong Gin Muang Ban Hao, a local food festival will be held on Ratwithi Road, while a Krathong-making Contest will be taking place throughout the festival period at the museum from 9am to 7pm. The museum is also holding a photographic exhibition entitled "Yi-Peng Traditions" until November 25, 9am to 7pm.
Tha-Pae Gate
Launch Northern lanterns into the sky to celebrate the 80th birthday of HM the King at Tha Pae Gate from November 22 to 25 from 6pm to midnight.
A District Court
From 6pm to midnight, there will be the Miss Yi-Peng Kid Contest and the Miss Yi-Peng Contest. Qualification rounds will run from November 22 to 24. The final round will be held on November 25, 6pm to midnight.
Mae Ping River
On November 24, there will be a light and sound presentation focusing on boats on the Ping River. The Municipality office will also hold the big Krathong Parade Contest on November 25 and the Kom Yi-Peng Contest on November 24. All activities will be held from 6pm to midnight every day.
During November 24 to 25, visitors will also see an array of fireworks and traditional Lanna krathong in the river from 9pm to midnight. There will also be competitions of local water sports such as diving, boat racing and more in the Ping River from 9am.
Night Bazaar and Pantip Plaza
November 21 to 23
Exhibition and workshops in Pantip Plaza on tung (Lanna flags) and kom loy (lanterns) from professionals who live in Chiang Mai.

November 22
Mister and Miss Kom Yi-Peng Chiang Mai 2007 at Anusarn Market.
November 23
The Yi-Peng's Parade Competition. The parade starts from Tha Pae Gate -Night Bazaar-Pantip Plaza. From 6 to 10pm.

Temples
Wat Jed Rin will hold a cultural exhibition of six hilltribe groups in Chiang Mai, a traditional maze and other religious rituals from November 23 to 25, 8am to 10pm.
Wat Intaklin will host the exhibition "Lanna Kom Yi-Peng" showing lifestyles and traditions of Lanna people from November 22 to 25, 9am to 9pm
Wat Lok Molee will have a Lantern Launching Competition and religious rituals from November 23 to 25, 9am to 10pm
Wat Muaeng Sat Noi will have "The Yi-Peng Culture Reserved and Folk Intellectual Activities" from November 23 to 25,
