JBIC now likely to fund Purple Line

The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is likely to grant a loan for the construction of the Purple Line electric-rail project, Deputy Finance Minister Sommai Phasee said yesterday.

He said Finance Minister Chalongphob Sussangkarn had visited Japan this week for talks with JBIC on the issue.

Sommai said the plan to borrow from China remained in place despite the Finance Ministry's desire to borrow from the JBIC. However, there are several electric-train routes that will need capital from abroad.
