EC member Sodsri takes 15-day leave

Election commissioner Sodsri Sattayatham took 15 days leave for health reasons after a rift over the stringent rules on the election campaign, EC chairman Apichat Sukhaggananda said on Thursday.

"She said in her letter that she has a health problem," Apichat said, but declined to speculate if she has gone aboard.

Earlier, Sodsri disagreed with the move by other four member of the EC to amend the tough campaign rules and said publicly that she would not take any responsibility for the mistakes, if any, made by the commission. She was absent from a meeting between the EC and media and political parties to review the rules on Monday.

"We believe Sodsri is mature enough to know what she has said. We won't control her interviews," Apichat said, adding that the EC let all members express their opinions freely and there was no conflict among the members.
