Gothom refuses to look into junta's documents

Gothom Arya Thrusday refused to lead the Election Commission (EC)'s investigation into classified documents detailing the junta's alleged propaganda ploy against the People Power Party (PPP).

Meanwhile, former Supreme Court president Sawat Chotipanich was said to be one of three law experts who accepted the EC's offers.

EC member Somchai Juengprasert said Gothom informed the EC that he was "uncomfortable" to accept the EC invitation after asking for one night to decide whether to accept the appointment. Thus, the EC had approached other three persons to lead the investigation and they all accepted the offers.

"It's now under consideration of EC chairman Apichart Sukhakanont to approve them, which could be finished by the next few days," he said.

PPP leader Samak Sundaravej circulated the documents for about two weeks. But Army and junta heads reacted by questioning their authenticity, then threatening legal action for disclosing a secret report.
