Drug suspect injured police before fleeing from precint's jail

In attempt to escape police custody, a murder and drug suspect Thursday morning injured a police office in Bangkok's Bang Khen district and robbed a passingby motorist of his motorcycle to flee, a senior police said.

As two teenage women told police that they wanted to visit the 22-year-old suspect Prasit Mungkul, Senior Sergeant Major Rangsan Pimkhunakorn took Prasit out of a jail in Bang Khen Police Station to have his fingerprints collected, as part of an application to court for his temporarily detention.

Metropolitan Police Area 2 Commander, Major General Worasak Noppasittiporn, said Prasit - who was arrested in a drug-relate case on October 30 and had another murder case in Bangrak district - used the opportunity to run out, prompting Rangsan to run after him. Prasit, apparently carried a gun suspected to be from the officer or his visitors, turned back and shot at Rangsan before snatching a passing-by motorcycle to flee, he said. Prasit's visitors also used the chaotic situation to flee the scene, he added.
