Alem Pramongkij, 18, was the last of a group of 19 Moken fishermen sent back to Thailand after their arrest in Indian waters for illegal entry and unauthorised fishing. He got back to Suvarnabhumi airport early yesterday morning.

Alem will receive further treatment for his injuries and paralysis at Noppharat Ratthathanee Hospital.

Deputy Social Development and Human Security Minister, Poldej Pinpratheep said the ministry would coordinate with the Interior Ministry to grant Thai nationality to all Moken people who wish it.

A joint programme would soon implement human and social developments for the Moken people.

Alem received initial treatment at a government hospital in Calcutta after suffering injuries and paralysis, which Indian authorities said were accidentally inflicted during the arrest.
