Thais to have it tough

[BADMINTON] Thai players again face a stern test in the French Super Series, which starts in Paris today, as top players await them in their first round matches.

In the mixed doubles, Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thungthongkam, who last week downed world champions Nova Widianto and Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia in the Denmark Super Series' first round, take on strong rivals He Hanbin and Yu Yang of China in their first game. The Chinese world No 8 duo captured the title in Denmark last week.

Sudket also has a difficult job in the men's doubles, where he teams up with Phattapol Ngernsrisuk. The pair are due to play high-profile Danes Jens Eriksen and Martin Lundgaard Hansen, the runners-up in Denmark who are ranked 7th in the world.

In the men's singles, Thai ace Boonsak Ponsana will have a chance to avenge his defeat in the recent Thailand Open Super Series' final when he takes on arch-rival Chen Hong of China. The Thai player, who has fallen to 12th in the world standings, has only one win in his five meetings against the Chinese on the world pro circuit.

However, the Thai beat Chen twice to take gold medals in the team and singles event at the recent Bangkok Universiade in August.

In the women's doubles, Thailand's Kunchala Voravichitchaikul and Duang-anong Aroonkesorn open their campaign against tough Indonesians Liliyana Natsir and Vita Marissa.
