The second Bangkok International Fashion Week 2007 (BIFW 07), running from November 8-11, is being organised by fashion hubs such as Siam Paragon, Siam Centre, The Emporium and Siam Discovery, with Nation Multimedia Group as the strategic media partner.
The show follows the success of the first BIFW in March, said Chadatip Chutrakul, managing director of Siam Paragon Development, adding that it was common to organise two shows per year.
"Siam Centre has been the fashion hub of Thailand for more than 30 years. Many Thai brands got started here, and we hope to continue our role as supporters," Chadatip said.
And while Bt40 million has been spent to organise the event, Chadatip said it was not entirely commercial. "It is also our pride in being a part that helps promote Thai designers and the fashion industry."
Kriengsak Tantiphipop, chief executive marketing officer for Siam Paragon and senior managing director of the Emporium Shopping Complex, said: "We know the fashion foundation needs not only good and strong brands but also distribution channels. We see the BIFW as a window of opportunity for Thai designers to help make their brands stronger both in the local and international arena."
Unlike the usual fashion shows in November that feature Autumn/Winter collections, the BIFW's theme was "party", Kriengsak said.
"Thailand has a very short winter, so we believe that the party theme will last longer and help giving fun and enjoyment to the audiences," he said.
The second BIFW will cover 13 shows by 64 designers from both Thai and international designers. One feature will be a special show celebrating Harper's Bazaar 140th anniversary, as well as an exhibition of world-renowned Daniel Swarovski's "The Red Carpet Collection" - luxurious accessories especially designed for Hollywood actresses making red carpet appearances.
