More tax credits for scholarships

The Revenue Department plans to give more tax credits to those who provide scholarships for students, director-general Sanit Rangnoi said yesterday.

He said the department had proposed that the Finance Ministry offer tax credits to those providing funds to support scholarships, research and experts.

They would receive a credit of twice their donation, providing they gave money to educational institutions on the department's eligible list. The new credits would be in addition to those the department gives to those who donate educational materials, he said.

Separately, Sanit said he was concerned that rapidly rising oil prices could disrupt the country's economic recovery and affect government revenue.

Preliminary figures suggest tax revenue for this month, the first of the fiscal year, will meet the target of Bt1.2 trillion.
