Nuamthong's photo is held by his wife before a religous rite of his funeral begins

Nuamthong, a taxi driver, hangs himself from a pedestrian bridge before dawn in front of the Thai Rath newspaper office in Bangkok.

He leaves a suicide note that says: "My act is to protest against dictatorship ... and let me tell you again that both incidents [the tank crash and the suicide] are calls from my heart. Nobody paid me to do so."

Nuamthong survived his first suicidal attempt after he rammed his taxi into a tank parked at the Royal Plaza on September 30. He got broken ribs and cuts to his chin and lips. His act raised questions about whether he was paid to do it by anti-coup politicians.

In his recorded message broadcasting on iTV, Nuamthong described the junta as "badmouthing and bullsh***ing", referring to promises not to stage a coup made earlier by some of it members.
