Millions of Thais are now praying for the good health of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, who have both been receiving treatment at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital.
His Majesty was admitted on October 13. As of yesterday, he had regained his appetite and could perform more active exercises.
His elder sister, 84, is being treated for cancer. On Thursday, the Royal Household Bureau issued the first announcement about the princess' health, stating that her condition was being closely monitored.
According to the bureau, the princess remained conscious and was able to move the left side of her body yesterday.
The princess received treatment for breast cancer 10 years ago, after which she had enjoyed good health until cancer was found in her abdominal cavity two years ago.
From early morning yesterday, a huge number of well-wishers flocked to Siriraj Hospital to wish His Majesty and Her Royal Highness good health.
The hospital also put up a picture of the princess next to that of His Majesty in the hospital's Centennial Pavilion yesterday. Well-wishing books were also available for people to sign for the princess.
HRH Princess Somsavali sent flowers to His Majesty and his elder sister.
Phra Raja Gura Vamadevamuni, the chief Brahmin priest of Devasatan Temple and the Royal Household Bureau, also came to the hospital.
"Brahmin priests will pray for her good health," he said, urging people to pray for the princess.
Yellow-clad people yesterday crowded the hospital to express their best wishes for the royal members.
Actress Sirilak Pongchoke was among the crowd. "I pray that His Majesty and Her Royal Highness enjoy a speedy recovery," she said.
Sirilak said she was so worried about the princess after hearing about her illness. She believed the princess' health meant a lot to His Majesty.
Dr Therdchai Jivacate, general-secretary for the Prostheses Foundation of HRH the Princess Mother, yesterday said everyone at the foundation was concerned about the princess' health. "She is very kind and benevolent," he said.
Her Royal Highness has supported various foundations and has worked hard alongside the foundation officials throughout the past several decades.
Out of gratitude and loyalty to His Majesty and Her Royal Highness, thousands of Thais have shown how much they are concerned about the royal members' health. Their concern was evident when they turned up at the hospital yesterday.
They were apparently relieved when the Royal Household Bureau's statements, which were released yesterday evening, mentioned His Majesty's improving health condition and how Her Royal Highness remained conscious and could move the left side of her body.
Throughout the past 13 days, 641,636 people have signed get-well messages for His Majesty. Honourable consuls from 12 countries were among those to sign the books yesterday.
Some 49,176 people signed get-well messages for Her Royal Highness.
