Media calls EC to revise campaign rules

Media associations on Friday decided to petition to the Election Commission (EC) to cancel its regulations that hurt the freedom of the press and limited politicians' election campaigns.

After a joint-meeting scrutinising the rules, the Thai Journalists Association and the Thai Broadcast Journalists Association agreed the regulations could result in voters lacking information to decide on political parties and MP candidates.

They claim that politicians would not dare give interview to the media for fear of violating the rules.

Meanwhile, the EC did not make clear the rules about what kind of appearance by politicians in the electronic media are allowed, the petition said.
