Resplendent tradition

 Rehearsals for the Royal Barge Procession will take place today, Monday and November 2 from 2 to 5pm. The River Mansion on Phra Athit Road will offer good views of the procession, which will involve 52 traditional-style barges, four of which are major royal barges, 12 barges with animal figureheads and 36 smaller ceremonial barges. A total of 2,082 Navy officers will serve as oarsmen.

Highlights include the Royal Barge Suphannahongse constructed in the reign of Rama VI, the Anantanagaraj which has a seven-headed serpent (naga), gold lacquer detailing and ornamental  mirrors, and HM the King's own Narai Song Suban, a replica of the barge Narai Song Suban built during the reigns of King Rama III and King Rama IV.

Home and garden designs

Supplies for the home and garden will be for sale

and on display at the annual Baan Lae Suan Fair, starting on Tuesday at Impact Convention Centre in Muang Thong Thani.

Hosted by Amarin Publishing, the fair features around 2,000 booths selling plants, gardening tools, and home decor items. There will be a model home built on the concept, "Harmony of Different Tones", as well as a showcase of award-winning designs from the Modern Native Gardens contest.

The fair runs from 9.30am to 9pm until November 4  in Challenger Halls 2 and 3. Admission is free.

Flute magic

Known as "The Man with the Golden Flute", Sir James Galway will perform at 8pm on Thursday at the Thailand Cultural Centre as part of "A Tribute to the Supreme Artist by Great Artists of the World".

Accompanying him will be his wife, flutist Lady Jeanne Galway and pianist Phillip Moll.

They will perform Mozart's "Sonata in F Major, K 376", Prokofiev's "Sonata in D Major, Op 94", Saint-Saens's "Airs de Ballet d' Ascanio", Ravel's "Piece en Forme de Habanera" and works by Bazzini, Godard, Doppler and Chaminade.

Hi-tech parade

The latest mobile phones, computers, digital cameras, MP3 players and other gadgets will be on offer at Commart Comtech Thailand 2007, from Thursday to November 4 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

This year features a focus on environmentally friendly gadgets, such as the Solio Charger, Voltaic Solar Bag, Bamboo computer, wind-up digital radio, Mega player 540 and the Ecolong 85-hour MP3 player.
