MOF to push Currency Act for the third round

Finance Minister Chalongphob Sussangkarn said on Friday he would for the third round propose the revised draft of Currency Act to the Cabinet for approval on Tuesday.

The minister said the controversial article 16 which allow the Bank of Thailand to utilise its special reserves account would be scrapped.

The Finance Ministry had earlier proposed the draft to the National Legislative Assembly twice and later withdrew it in fearing that the NLA members would vote down the draft.

It is expected that if the central bank is allowed to use fund from the special reserves account, it would indirectly reduce the central bank's loss. - The Nation
