PPP wants a ruling to pave way for Thaksin as party adviser

The People Power Party will ask the Election Commission to rule whether former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra can be appointed a party adviser, party executive and legal adviser Noppadon Patama said on Wednesday.

"The planned consultation with the EC is expected to clarify the extent of banned party executives to get involved in campaigning activities," he said.

The clarifications sought include the question whether Thaksin can pose in campaign pictures along with election candidates, he said.

Should the EC give the green light for Thaksin's advisory role, the party will also name banned Thai Rak Thai executives, such as Chaturon Chaisang, Phrommin Lertsuridej and Phumtham Wechayachai, as advisers, he said.

He expressed optimism that his party's link to Thaksin would help to sway votes.
