Matchima loses two election candidates to rival

The Matchima Thippatai confirmed on Wednesday that two former MPs, Sophon Phetsawang and Sakorn Phrompakdee, had defected to a rival party because of a disagreement over policies.

"The two left but there will not be mass exodus of party's election candidates from the Northeast as has been speculated," party secretarygeneral Anongwan Thepsuthin said.

Anongwan said her party remained on course to contest the December 23 election.

Sophon and Sakorn, who are seeking reelection bids in Buri Ram and Sakhon Nakhon respectively, have claimed to be disillusioned with the party leadership under Prachai Leopairatana and planned to join the Pua Paendin Party.

In related development, Pua Paendin secretary general Vachara Phanchet dismissed the allegation that he offered to pay more money than Prachai in order to lure the two former MPs to his party.
