Activists to boycott tourist buses

Naresuan University lecturers and activists in Phitsanulok called yesterday for a ban on tourist coaches that travel past several historical pagodas at a major temple to prevent them from further damage - or eventual collapse.

Chalermchai Ngao-rangsee, of the Faculty of Architecture, said the impact from large vehicles and tourist coaches entering Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat, that houses the famous Buddha image Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, had caused damage to several pagodas built during the Ayutthaya period.

He called for two gates of the temple near Nan River to be permanently closed to all vehicles, and the gate near Ja Karn Bun Road be used as the only vehicle entry.
