Petrol price makes new record high

Oil retailers will tomorrow raise retail prices of petrol and diesel by 40 satang per litre, pushing the petrol prices to new record high.

Octane-95 petrol will be priced Bt30.74 per litre. The previous record was Bt30.59, registered in August last year.

Meanwhile, diesel will cost Bt27.74 per litre. It first hit the record high in July last year when the fuel cost Bt27.94 per litre.

Chaiwat Chooritti, senior executive vice president of PTT, said that low marketing fees against continued spikes in global oil prices means that PTT has to shoulder a loss of Bt30 million from the retail business.

He said every litre of fuel sold, PTT shoulders a loss of Bt1.53.

Dubai crude oil yesterday climbed to US$79.50 a barrel while finished petrol at $91.51 a barrel while finished diesel at $97.59.

Pushing oil prices to the new record highs are violence in the North of Iraq as well as rising petrol demand in China and the lower reserves of petrol and diesel, Chaiwat said.
