Manufacturing growth targeted above 6%

Thailand's industrial manufacturing sector should expand 6-6.2 per cent this year, bouyed mainly by the export growth in the fourth quarter, according to the Industrial Economics Department.

Atchaka Sribunruang Brimble, director-general of the department, added that domestic consumption should also increase in the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter growth rate is expected to be 6.4 per cent, driven mainly by the electric and electronic sector.

The department also believed that domestic vehicle sales would pick up in the fourth quarter due to a motor expo which would take place in December.

"Thailand remains a manufacturing centre and confidence resumes also because of the scheduling the election date. Political parties' spending should be significant in boosting domestic consumption," she said.
