Police said they had information that Narongrit Khlangpha, 36, had long dealt drugs, but decided to act following concrete evidence against him.

Narongrit is a son of long-time Lop Buri MP Amnuay Khlangpha, who moved from the Thai Rak Thai Party to the People Power Party.

Prasong Obchomchoei 48, and Natthawut Singphai, 25, were also arrested at the bus terminal as they were allegedly collecting the drugs from a bus from Chiang Mai. Police searched the three suspects' homes in the province but found nothing illegal.

The three suspects were also charged with possessing firearms as police found them carrying two loaded automatic pistols.

Meanwhile, police and prison guards earlier arrested three people in Khlong Prem Central Prison and seized 60,000 amphetamine tablets from them while they were visiting an imprisoned relative.
