Four killed in South shootings

Gun attacks killed four people in Yala and Narathiwat yesterday while a bomb explosion near a military outpost in Yala's Muang district injured five soldiers and two civilians.

The bomb targeting the soldiers was detonated by mobile phone and exploded at around 6.30am in Sateng Nok sub-district some 100 metres from the outpost of the 15th Task Force where the five soldiers were having breakfast. Two civilians were also injured in the blast.

Private Abdultoloh Masama, 22 is in a serious condition.

In neighbouring Narathiwat province, a security defence volunteer was shot dead yesterday in Rusoh district at around 4pm while riding home from work with his wife and a friend.

Mesai Rohmesa, 26, was shot twice in the head while riding his motorbike, killing him instantly. His wife and a friend who were riding pillion survived, police said.

In Yala's Raman district, a couple was shot dead in an orchard at around 4.30pm. Gunmen on a motorbike opened fired at Yingyong Chairattanamanokorn and his wife Heang Chairattanmanokorn as they parked their pickup truck. The gunmen burned the truck before leaving the scene. Some 20 minute later, also in the same district, an assistant village head was shot dead while riding a motorbike in a village in A-Chong sub-district.

An eyewitness saw one of two men on a motorbike fire a pistol at Ismail Musoh, 52, who died instantly.
