Royal relief bags for flood-hit Angthong

Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously provided 1,000 relief bags for the Thai Red Cross Society to give to flood victims in the central province of Angthong yesterday morning.

Thai Red Cross Society secretary-general Phan Wann-amethee and his team delivered 500 relief bags to Chaiyo district's Tambon Jorakhe Rong and another 500 bags to residents in Pa Moke district's Tambon Bang Plakod.

In Pa Moke district, a Mathayom 3 student, Supatra Tripinit, 15, yesterday afternoon drowned in a torrent while trying to walk through flood water with friends. Her body was recovered three hours later, bringing the province's death toll from the flooding to five.

Angthong Governor Suthana Theewirapanya said the Chao Phya River continued to rise and water levels in front of city hall were measured at 8.41 metres - 20 centimetres higher than Thursday - because the Chao Phya Dam was letting water through at 2,611 cubic metres per second.

Incoming patients were advised go to nearby Kao Lieo Hospital.

Ping and Chao Phya overflows flooded homes and 400 rai of farmland in Banphot Phisai and Krok Phra districts.
