"His Majesty is the leader who has won admiration from all countries and all governments," Surin Pitsuwan said as he showed up at Siriraj Hospital to join in writing a message of encouragement for His Majesty.

The Royal Household Bureau in its latest update reported that the King, who has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since last Saturday, now could partake of more nourishment and his general condition was good.

"The inflammation of the small diverticulum of the large intestine has progressively decreased. His Majesty is performing active exercises to regain his strength," the bureau's statement said.

Thousands of people from all walks of life have flocked to the hospital each day to wish His Majesty a speedy recovery. Many have camped out at the hospital out of their loyalty to their beloved monarch.

"I'm delighted to see so many people showing up here to wish His Majesty good health," Niwat Laosuwanwat said through his tears of joy.

The boxing promoter led many pugilists to the hospital to write get-well messages for His Majesty.

The world's longest-reigning monarch turns 80 on December 5.

Tennis star Danai Udomchoke and his 77-year-old grandmother came to sign the message album for His Majesty before flying to South Korea.

"I'm going to join an ATP tour event. I want to fight in the tournament for His Majesty," he said.

Finnish Ambassador Lars Backstrom left a get-well message for His Majesty on behalf of all his countrymen. Other high-profile figures were Assets Examination Committee secretary Kaewsan Atibodhi and National Economic and Social Development Board secretary-general Ampon Kittiampon.

Several entertainment celebrities also turned up.

Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda on his visit to the hospital urged the well-wishers to take good care of their health, too.

Aware that many of his loyal subjects had come to wish him a full recovery, His Majesty assigned the Royal Household Bureau to hand out photos of Their Majesties the King and Queen to the crowd.
