"We need to reach an understanding before they hold the protest. Pressure won't speed up the negotiations, which involves procedures. The gathering would only complicate the discussions," said Chaisawat, who is chairman of the tripartite committee tasked with finding a solution.
The committee was not trying to buy time. The negotiating process was lengthy as consent was required from both the affected residents and Airports of Thailand, which operates the airport, he said.
The homeowners have threatened to stage a demonstration against delays in paying compensation.
Wanchart Manathamsombat, a representative of the residents, said after the committee meeting on Wednesday there had been no progress at all and residents planned to mobilise on Sunday week.
