Soldiers ambushed

Soldiers engaged in a vicious 10-minute gunfight with militants yesterday after a bomb by the side of a back road in Sai Buri district tipped their vehicle over.

The blast left a two-metre-wide crater at the side of the road in Tambon Trohbon.

Authorities said the bomb was set off by a detonator about 100 metres away.

The blast injured three soldiers.

In Yala, gunmen shot dead villager Beroheng Sama-ae, 35, in Tambon Huay Krathing of Krong Pinang district as he was about to step out of his front door yesterday morning.
