It was seen as punishment that he had criticised junta chief General Sonthi Boonyaratglin and Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont over a recent military reshuffle that saw his friend General Saprang Kalayanamitr failed to become the new Army chief-in-command.
Saprang is said to be resigning from the Army to run the next poll too.
