Next stops will be in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Malaysia.

The TDS event in Bangkok aimed to promote safe transportation, distribution and handling of materials, particularly in the chemicals, logistics and related industries, for the protection of the community and the environment.

"The safety roadshow, called SMILE, is part of BASF's sustainable-development initiative to promote transportation safety in the industry," said Hans-Guenter Muller, director of global transportation and distribution safety at BASF AG.

"We want to share our expertise and help other companies to enforce high standards of measures for transportation safety."

Participants comprised industry partners, logistics-service providers and customers from around 50 companies.

The main topics were focused on how to manage transportation safety in case of emergency with technology that can access anyplace in the world.

BASF will provide 184 safety advisers to train participants in chemical logistics to meet the European Union safety standard.

Collaborating with the Industrial Works Depart-ment, BASF introduced

seminar attendees to its

newly developed emergency-response information called "ERICards" - interactive cards that meet European standards.

Reasons cited for choosing the Kingdom as the first country to introduce the TDS programme were convenience and readiness in road-transportation regulations and the translation of ERICards in Thai as well as good connections with Thai authorities.

ERICards in Thai will be uploaded on the department's website with a link to the website of the European Chemical Industry consortium.

Pracha Chivapornthip, chairman and managing director of BASF Group in Thailand, said ERICards in Thailand would be useful and enable local-speaking emergency responders to access information easily and at no charge to manage emergency situations effectively.
