The company, which sells personal-care products ranging from shampoos to skin creams, launched the supplements in the third quarter.

General manager Pakapun Leevutinun said the company now emphasised "The Right Approach" (TRA) to a healthy shaping programme.

Sales of TRA products are expected to account for 10 per cent, or Bt120 million, of revenue this year, she said

Pakapun believes the products will experience rapid growth here, mirroring their popularity in Taiwan, where they account for 20 per cent of Nu Skin sales of the equivalent of Bt5 billion.

According to company research, more than 80 per cent of supplement customers have increased monthly purchases.

More than 70 per cent of all customers are increasingly interested in food supplements, especially those with weight-control characteristics and calcium additives. The research was carried out using a random sampling of 20,000 Nu Skin salespeople.

"Consumers of these products receive advice on consumption and diet as well as supervision from well-trained agents," said Pakapun.

Nu Skin is holding a weight-control contest to increase interest in food supplements.

The company offers its Nu Skin "university" online information service for health and skincare and works for "social betterment" with Mae Fah Luang University.

The Nu Skin university trains company sellers to run their own businesses and instruct customers in the use of products and basic care throughout Southeast Asia, Pakapun said.

The company developed and sells a skin cream made from longan in conjunction with Mae Fah Luang University.

In the past quarter, Nu Skin posted a 10-per-cent increase in sales compared with the second.
