Mother creates Baby Comfortz brand

Published on October 15, 2007

Sirin Akaraporn has created a diaper business from her own experience as a mother.

The Baby Comfortz brand is made from 100-per-cent cotton and has been designed to fulfil Sirin's wish of having a product that is kind to both nature and her baby.

"I have learned from my own experience to develop the diaper, which is intended to be the best for my own son," said the 31-year-old.

"And my creation of Baby Comfortz is aimed at sharing the best experience of the product with other mothers and babies."

Sirin set up the company Simple Miracle two months ago to handle the business. She has already registered the patent for her diaper.

A website, Babycomfortz.com, will be launched officially by the end of this month.

Sirin graduated from the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Chulalongkorn University in 1997 and earned an MBA in International Business and Finance at the University of Texas in 2001.

On returning home she started her career at Siemens Thailand in market research and analysis in 2002.

After two years with Siemens, Sirin moved to Total Access Communication (DTAC) in 2004 as an assistant manager for customer-profile analysis and retention strategy at the post-paid division of its small-and-medium enterprise department.

She then joined True Move in 2005 as telecom analysis manager and looked after regulatory, government and industry affairs.

Sirin said she was very uncomfortable during her pregnancy.

"I was pregnant in 2005 at the age of 28. After the first eight months of pregnancy, I had an accident and strained my leg. I needed to stay in bed all the time," she said.

She had to wear adult diapers made from paper and polyester. "It always made me feel uncomfortable and hot, and caused diaper rashes, burns and bruises on my skin," she said.

Sirin decided to quit her job after giving birth to her son.

"In the first three or four months, I knew that my baby was also suffering from the use of disposable nappies, just as I had during pregnancy," she said. "He had diaper rashes and burns on his sensitive skin."

Sirin tried to solve the problem and created a diaper from natural cotton to ensure that her beloved son would be comfortable.

"I had the idea of combining the outstanding features of natural cotton with the modern design of disposable diapers," she said.

Sirin said Baby Comfortz diapers could be adjusted to the size of a baby's waist and legs for their comfort. The product is environmentally friendly and will not hurt babies or leave them with rashes or red scars.

"My Baby Comfortz diaper is breathable, convenient and safe, with fabric hook-and-loop fasteners designed to avoid problems caused by the unnecessary need for pins, which may hurt the baby or mother, and any uncomfortable tie that often becomes loose when the baby moves," she said.

Sirin said the market had been tested and she had received a lot of good feedback from mothers who were concerned about these simple problems with their babies.

"I saw good business potential for my diaper and started to run this business seriously," said Sirin, adding that she started selling her Baby Comfortz diapers commercially through magazine orders as well as the postal service.

"I am considering setting up my own dealer network as well as dealing with major department stores to distribute my Baby Comfortz diapers to end consumers."
