Cable systems allow monitoring

CommScope has announced the Systimax iPatch system as a technology trend for cabling IP-based real-time infrastructure and VisiPatch 360 that provides cabling to enhance the performance of network infrastructure.

Published on October 9, 2007

Mark Peterson, senior vice president of the global enterprise market and strategy division of CommScope, a communications network company, said Systimax iPatch is a real-time infrastructure management system that offers data-centre managers interactive, real-time control over both copper and fibre connections. The system can tell system managers the status of every connection in the network and allows real-time monitoring of physical connectivity and device discovery, permitting faster resolution of problems in networks.

The iPatch system automates the discovery of network devices and physical locations, providing a full end-to-end view of the physical and network layers.

He said the system also reduces operating costs by integrating with workflow processes, automating routine tasks and assisting technicians in the completion of work orders and the provision of services. It also tracks the status of each work order and can alert data-centre managers if a job is not completed on schedule. As a result, it enhances productivity and managers achieve efficient use of resources and cost control.

"We provide the next step of cabling infrastructure that manages network connections on remote sites, which improves efficiency and increases reliability of networks in real time with lower network management costs," said Peterson.

He said VisiPatch 360 is a new-generation patching system that seamlessly incorporates patching and integrated cable management to deliver an ergonomically designed and aesthetically pleasing system that saves time, space and money.

The system utilises a unique reverse patching technology, allowing patch cords to be projected away from the user and into the patch field. This design improves cord management by reducing clutter and facilitates the reading of labels, future moves, additions and changes.

The system minimises congestion, allowing for maximum usable density.

"VisiPatch 360 is an innovative cable-management system that fully integrates robust vertical and horizontal spaces to increase ease of use," said Peterson.

The firm also sells a range of products to meet the unique needs of intelligent building design, from copper to fibre-optic to coax.

The products provide building automation and communications systems, including video surveillance and access control, converged over the same, common infrastructure, offering an enhanced level of efficiency and cross-system performance to reduce the cost of management of a building.
