New attorney general

Chaikasem Nitisiri became the new attorney general yesterday after the State Attorney Commission voted unanimously to promote him.

Published on October 9, 2007

Chaikasem, who has served as caretaker attorney general since the retirement of Pachara Yutithamdamrong last month, was selected with 12 votes.

Neither he nor Julasing Wasantsing, another State Attorney Commission member, were allowed to vote because they were candidates for the top post. Chaikasem, 59, denied any conflict with Julasing.

The new Attorney General graduated from Chulalongkorn University with a law degree and received a Master's degree from Columbia University in the United States. He was appointed deputy attorney general in December 2003.
