Highlights of the Week :Prasong set to counter PM's allegation

National Legislative Assembly (NLA) member Prasong Soonsiri calls a news conference Monday where he will counter comments by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont alleging that Prasong asked Surayud to "do something" that was against his moral beliefs when he was Army commander-in-chief. The assembly is attempting to hold a censure debate about the prime minister's conduct and performance.

Snoh statement on party split

Pracharaj Party's caretaker leader Snoh Thienthong calls a news conference today to explain his position in the wake of the departure of party financier Prachai Leophairatana and the Matchima Group. They have joined the Matchima Thippatai party and Prachai will become its leader.

NLA motion to grill Cabinet

The motion to grill Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont and his Cabinet on ethics will be tabled for debate on Wednesday and Thursday.

At least 15 NLA members are seeking to speak regarding the ethics of Cabinet ministers.

Surayud said he was ready to answer questions in the House.

Democrats head to Khon Kaen

On Thursday the Democrat Party takes its election campaign to Khon Kaen. It is expected to announce possible candidates for some constituencies, too.

The rival People Power Party, meanwhile, is seeking permission from Bangkok administration officials for its plan to hold a campaign rally at Sanam Luang on Friday.

Matchima Thippatai, meanwhile, will convene a meeting of the party's executive board today to discuss changes in its regulations in preparation for Prachai taking over as the new party leader.

A general meeting of the party is scheduled for next Monday.
