Thailand-India FTA affected by new constitution

Thailand-India Free Trade Agreement negotiation is expected to be affected from the country's new Constitution Act as the government has to wait for organic law under Article 190 to make sure transparent trade talk processes.



All free trade agreements (FTAs) that the government is negotiating with trading partners would be suspended if the parliament does not approve them.

Under the new Constitution Act, the government has to seek parliament approval before negotiating FTA with any countries. The Constitution Act's Article 190 draw to ensure the country's both maximum benefit and transparency process.

As a result, any free trade agreement which are being negotiated should wait for organic law to clarify detail of Article 190. - The Nation
