Guidebooks for home schooling

The Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) is preparing home-schooling guidebooks for educators and parents.

"Sometimes we see the authorities and families with different criteria for home-schooling curriculums," Obec expert Dr Boonchu Chalanchian said recently, "There are also no clear evaluation methods and tools". To date, 88 families have registered for home schooling. Of them, 12 have already seen their children move from formal schools.

Yuthachai Chalermchai, an adviser to the Thai Home School Association, said there were many reasons behind parents' decisions to opt for home schooling, including parents' lack of trust in formal schools, children's bad experiences at school, and special needs.
