The government and the Election Commission now are setting their eyes on the next general election after insisting earlier this week on the election date of December 23.

The insistence came amidst mixed reactions from politicians. Some threw their support behind the December date while others said it was too early as many things had yet to be completed, such as allocation of the constituencies.

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said on Thursday (Oct 4) that the government would after October 16 proposed an election decree seeking royal endorsement of the preferred election date. The decree would officially set the electoral process in motion.
