Natal district saw a three-kilometer portion of the road damaged, marooning the local village, prompting district chief Mahannop Kanjanawijit to instruct relevant officials to monitor water level in Mekong River, which was rising dangerously as the Lekima storm has brought along heavy downpours.
Some local farms were already flooded.
Mahannop said his district officials would provide assistance in moving people's belongings to higher grounds in case of evacuation.
Earlier, the weather bureau, in its announcement No 21 on the storm, said the storm was centered at Laos about 80 km north of Nakhon Phanom province with maximum sustained winds of 80 km/hr at 4 am on Thursday.
Moving westward at a speed of 18 km/hr, the storm was expected to be downgraded to the depression moving through Nong Khai and Nakhon Phanom at 10am.
The department said the depression would unleash heavy rains in Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lamphu, Mukdahan, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Roi Et, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, Nakhon Ratchasima, Loei, Phetchabun, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Phrae, Nan and Tak.
