Highlights of the Week: PM to discuss election with EC

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont meets the Election Commission on Thursday (October 4) to discuss about organising the upcoming general election, which was tentatively scheduled for December 23. Surayud said he planned to talk with the EC the details of the election and assistance the EC needs from the government. He said the EC has discussed with the Royal Thai Police and assigned some officers to help in the election.



Swearing-in ceremony of new Cabinet appointees

The prime minister and General Sonthi Boonyaratglin will have an audience with His Majesty the King later this week after their appointments as the interior minister and deputy prime minister, respectively.

Sonthi's appointment obtained Royal endorsement on Tuesday and PM Surayud Chulanont's on Wednesday.

The message the King will have for the two will be something to pay attention to.

Political group to form 'Strategist Council'

Ruam Jai Thai Chat Pattana group expects the Election Commission to soon approve its registration as a political party. The group then will open its "Strategist Council" on the same day.

The group's key members including Somkid Jatusripitak, Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, Pradit Pattaraprasit, Anek Laothammatas and Bhichit Rattakul are expected to join the council.
