Egat to ink power deal with Laos

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) is prepared to sign a power purchase agreement with the Lao government at the end of this year.



Egat's governor Kraisri Karnasutra said yesterday the agreement is for the purchase of 1,400 megawatts from four hydropower projects -Nam Thuen-Hin Bun, Nam Thuen I, Nam Nguem 3, and Nam Ngieb.

Of total, 220 megawatts will be from in Nam Thuen-Hin Bun, 523 megawatts from Nam Thuen 1, 440 megawatts from Nam Nguem 3, and the rest from Nam Ngieb.

The Lao government will invest on installing the Na Bong transmission line, which is for supplying the electricity to Thailand. Asian Development Bank (ADB) already agreed to grant a loan between Bt2 billion to Bt3 billion to Lao develop such transmission line project.
